Measuring Stresses in Advanced CMC's.
The Experimental Mechanics Lab at the the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign uses the DeltaTherm from Stress Photonics to measure damage evolution in advanced composites, stress concentration factors, and measure plastic zones. The series of damage evolution images that follow were performed on a 0/90 weave alumina/alumina double notch ceramic matrix composite.
